Canadian Gay Curling Championships – Ottawa Playdowns

This year’s Canadian Gay Curling Championships (Nationals) will be held in Toronto from Thursday, March 5 – Sunday, March 8, 2015 alongside the annual Riverdale Bonspiel.

Playdowns to determine the two teams that will represent Ottawa and Rainbow Rockers will be held on Saturday, December 6 and Sunday, December 7, 2014. A double knockout format will be used to determine the seeding.

Draw Times are as follows:

Saturday, December 6 2 PM 4 PM 8 PM
Sunday, December 7 1 PM 7 PM

A preliminary draw has been prepared assuming six teams enter. The draw schedule will be adjusted to accommodate greater or fewer than six teams; however every effort will be made to retain the scheduled draw dates/times.


  • A $100 entry fee per team is required. The entry fee is non-refundable after the registration deadline.
  • Teams must consist of at least TWO full-time registered members (2014-2015) of the Rainbow Rockers Curling League. Remaining players MUST be registered spares of the Rainbow Rockers Curling League for the 2014-2015 season AND:
  1. Have played a minimum of one league game on or before November 23, 2014, or
  2. Be scheduled, with authorization from the league President, to play in a league game between November 24, 2014 and February 28, 2015.
  • Teams must be able and willing to participate in the playdowns as scheduled.
  • Up to two spares are permitted per team to contest the playdowns; however the team composition must continue to meet the eligibility requirements listed above.

Dear curling friends,

We would like to give you an update about the “Bonspiel des Phénix” that will be held on November 7-8-9 in Montreal.

The registration goes very well and we have only a few place available, if your members want to participate, they will need to speed up to register.

The good news is that we have decided to extend the early registration fee until Sunday October 12th because the majority of the leagues starts their curling season early in October.

New to curling?  Need to brush up?  Then a Beginner or Refresher clinic is for you.  Both will be held on Sunday, October 5 from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM.  The cost is $10 per person.  Sign up during the Meet and Greet or contact John at

New members are strongly encouraged to attend the beginner clinic.


Shake off the rust on Sunday, October 5 with opening practice fun game.  Curl at either 3:00 PM or 5:00 PM and stay for the pizza party at 7:00 PM.  The event is completely free.  Sign up at the Meet and Greet.

Regular season curling starts on October 19.  The first round schedule will be posted in early October.   In the meantime, please familiarize yourself with the league website, review the essentials of curling etiquette and brush up on league rules at

As a part of Capital Pride’s Health and Fitness Day the RRCL is hosting Bocce Ball. All-ages are welcome. Check regularly for updates on events planned for the day. Come out to support the league and Capital Pride!

Rainbow Rockers Curling League Bocce and BBQ – JUNE 18th

To help us maintain the curling spirit as we move into summer please join us for Bocce Ball and a BBQ.

Never heard of Bocce Ball? Not a problem! This game of “summer curling” is fun, fast and easy to learn. Let’s see if our players are as good on grass as they are on the ice!

This event will be held at 221 North River Road (near the Cummings Bridge and where Rideau Street becomes Montreal Road), the home of our league treasurer Steve on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 6:15 p.m. sharp, games start at 6:30 p.m. Please note that there is no parking on River Road, please park on side streets.

Bocce games will be played on the lawn of the park across the street along the Rideau River and we will be serving a BBQ, including vegetarian options. The cost is $10 per person which includes BBQ burgers, sausages, salads, snacks dessert and soft drinks/juices. BYOB but please make sure you arrange for designated drivers or public transport.

Bring your friends, partners, and any new or prospective league members to give them a chance to get to know our group. Members of the Executive will be on-hand to meet people and answer questions.

End of Season Curling & Banquet – Sunday, April 13, 2014

Wind up the season with one last game of curling followed by a banquet dinner on Sunday, April 13.  Choose to curl at either 3:00 PM or 5:00 PM and then enjoy a delicious meal of chicken and fixings along with a sundae bar for dessert.  Players register as individuals and will be placed on a team.  Following the banquet, champions will also be crowned in each of the divisions and ALL teams take home cash!  Lots of bonus prizes and extras too!  
The cost for the event is $15 for full-time members and $30 for spares and guests.  You may register after the 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM games on April 6 or by sending an e-mail to The deadline to register is April 9.  Please indicate if you would prefer a vegetarian meal or have any food allergies. 

Registration for the 2014 – 2015 Season
Full-time members have the opportunity to register and pay the $50 deposit for the 2014-2015 season at the closing banquet.  Members can register as a team or as individuals. If you do not have a full team but wish to curl with one or two other people, then please specify this on your registration. If you cannot attend the banquet or do not wish to pay your $50 deposit on Sunday, you must register on-line and send the $50 deposit to Steve Horwood (cheques made payable to RAINBOW ROCKERS CURLING LEAGUE) no later than May 15.  Details will be available on the website shortly. 
After May 15, registration will be open to spares and new members.  Registration forms for new full-time members will accepted before this date, but will be considered tentative and subject to space availability. 
Q Ball Registration
